On Friday, February 7, Anuradha Dugal, executive director of Women’s Shelters Canada, received the King Charles III Coronation Medal at a special ceremony at the Waterfront Campus of George Brown College. Awarded to outstanding Canadians who have made a significant contribution to Canada, Anuradha was nominated by Senator Paulette Senior for her work to end gender-based violence and promote women’s rights.
“When I was younger, I envisioned a career that was focused on helping people,” Anuradha said in advance of the ceremony. “I am honoured that my work, particularly with Women’s Shelters Canada and previously with the Canadian Women’s Foundation has been recognized in this way. I hope this recognition brings more attention to the immense challenge of ending gender-based violence in Canada, and spurs us all on as a society, to greater efforts.”
Congratulations, Anuradha and all recipients!
