Virtual Forum on Economic Empowerment

In May 2025, Women’s Shelters Canada hosted a virtual forum on economic empowerment that brought together anti-violence workers from across the country to share promising practices and discuss challenges related to supporting survivors in rebuilding their financial stability and independence after experiencing abuse. Many joined us for three half-days of engaging and practical conversations on this topic with speakers from across the country, including a fireside chat with Meseret Haileyesus of the Canadian Centre for Women’s Empowerment, the launch of WSC’s new Digital Financial Abuse Toolkit, sessions exploring promising practices and tools you can use in economic empowerment programming at your shelter, and a panel discussion on supporting newcomer survivors.
