Call for Consultant Writers/Researchers (on-going)
The Canadian Network of Women’s Shelters & Transition Houses (the Network) is an emerging network of the 14 provincial/territorial, regional and aboriginal sheltering organizations in Canada, representing over 350 emergency and second stage shelters for abused women and their children. The goal of the Network is to facilitate the national exchange of shelter practices in order to make new advances in the development of high quality services, to establish a strong voice so that shelters may act together to identify and address common issues, and to ensure that a shared agenda is well-represented at the national level. The Canadian Network has identified a frequent and an on-going need for the services of consultant writers and researchers to support its development.
The Network invites interested researchers and writers with expertise in the field of sheltering and/or violence against women, to submit a letter of interest, up-to-date CV and a sample of their work in the area. Submissions will be reviewed carefully against current opportunities and also included in a bank of consultants that will be considered for future needs-based research/writing.
Current Opportunities
Shelters and Safe Spaces for Women and Girls and the UN Global Virtual Knowledge Centre
In Fall 2010, the Network was selected by UN Women to develop a Knowledge Module on “Shelters and Safe Spaces for Women and Girls at Risk of or Survivors of Violence” for the Global Virtual Knowledge Centre to End Violence Against Women and Girls. Background information on the Centre is available here.
The focus of the Shelter Module is to provide evidence-based how-to guidance on the planning, design, implementing and evaluation of different shelter models to support women and girls. The emphasis is on ‘distilled’ programming knowledge that is based on what works, derived from evaluations, expert recommendations, and the collective common experiences of practitioners and networks. As we near completion of drafting the Shelter Module, there are several short-term consultancy opportunities available for individuals or teams with specialized expertise in areas such as national legislation and public policy relevant to violence against women shelters and shelter services for specialized populations, among others.
Please indicate your interest by email to info@endvaw.ca ASAP. Please use the subject line: CALL FOR CONSULTANTS and list the following in the body of the email 1) name and full contact info, including best time to reach you 2) your availability in the coming months. Please provide a current CV and work samples as attachments. All interested parties will be contacted for follow-up.
